Bulgaria is a country with more than 3000-year history. It is a place where Balkan, Slavic and Arab culture have met. Moreover, there are sandy beaches, sheltered bays and atmospheric caffes or restaurants. Bulgaria is not so big country located in the west coast of the Black Sea. It borders with Greece and Turkey from the south, Serbia and Mecedonia from the west and Romania from the north. Bulgarian coast is dotted with numerous modern resorts such as Sunny Beach, Golden Sands. There are also exclusive hotels, elegant restaurants and various entertainment spots. The central part of Bulgaria offers many unusual historical monuments. Visitors can discover the remains from the Ottoman times, Orthodox sacral architecture as well as rich Balkan culture. The most impressive is the Rila Monastery, the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak and the Tombul Mosque. Bulgarian wines are becoming more and more popular and they are gaining recognition among the most demanding palate.
The capital city of Bulgaria is Sofia which is located at the foot of the Vitosha massif, in the west part of the country. The origins of settlements on the area of Sofia date back to the 5th century BC. It is one of the oldest city in Europe. The city has gone the rounds. It was controlled by the Rome Empire, Bisantium, Bulgarian Empire and Ottoman Empire. Today, Sofia is a city of contrasts, where can be found remains of ancient temples, medieval Orthodox churches and socrealistic architecture of People's Republic of Bulgaria.
