First Jews have appeared in the area of today's Bulgaria before the 2nd century A.D. They have played an important role in the development of Bulgaria. In Sofia, there can be found plenty of remains related with Jewish culture, their religion and history. We would like to show you the most significant landmarks of Sofia which represent Jewish heritage.
You will learn a lot about Jewish traditions as well as their modern and contemporary history. You will see the Old Observatory, the Jewish Monument commemorating the protection, saving and the salvation of the Bulgarian Jews during the World War 2. You will also visit the Synagogue and its Jewish History Museum. During our walk you will have a possibility to admire such buildings as the Russian Church, the former Kings' Palace, the National Theater, the Presidency, the St. George Rotunda, the Monument of Madonna Sofia. You will also notice the Largo, the Eastern Gate of Ancient Serdica, the Old Public Bath.
